Rome, March 29 - April 1, 2001
by Giorgio Rizzarelli
A total of 15 Alan Parsons Italian fans from all over Italy gathered at the 5th Italian Parsons Day, in Rome, Spring 2001. The organization was directed by the brothers Dario and Carlo Pompili, but had many other contributors. Professionality, art, culture, organization and harmony: elements that were always present in our meetings, as well as in Parsons' music, but in PDAY5 these elements had a qualitative jump.
Professionality, for our first performance as a real and complete band (drums, bass, electric and acoustic guitar, keyboards, percussion, lead and backing vocals) with such technology as 7 synthesizers, just to do an example.
Art, for the seven paintings given as prize, realized by Alessandro Pompili, Dario and Carlo's father, on his sons' concepts, composing Parsons artwork elements, that is elements by Storm Thorgerson. These paintings were composed and depicted in a Surrealist style similar to that of René Magritte, Thorgerson's great master.
Culture, because right of Magritte we visited a wonderful exposition. It has been an honour to visit it with such friends, and we appreciated it not only for the Thorgerson connections but also to know better Magritte himself. The Project has been a door to culture for many of ourselves. One of us graduated on Magritte, and is now a professional graphic designer. He helped me to devise a webpage about the Thorgerson-Magritte connections. To reach it please use the button at the end of this page. You will also find a button to reach the photos, which include our paintings.
Organization, because in this meeting Dario tied various activities to Pyramid, doing of this album the recurring theme of the meeting, transforming it in a thematic symphony: the Pyramid Cake in the classic thematic lunch, the Pyramid gadgets, the exposition of the rare Pyramid orange vinyl and the Pyramid style in the paintings.
But harmony has been the real success of PDAY5. In every moment, since the first minute, we had a special feeling and confidence. And this was true as well for the fans which met for the first time. It's the same feeling we had at PDAY1, at which we were only 6, hence I'm sure that we'll have this feeling also when we'll be more, with the only difference that this feeling will be experimented by more individuals.
